Requirements and Registration

Requirements

CSEM is a requirement within the College of Arts and Letters for students who are earning either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Students who declare a dual degree, i.e., those who are earning a degree from the College of Arts and Letters as well as a Bachelor degree from another College, must complete the requirements of both Colleges, and therefore must take the College Seminar.

College Seminar fulfills the CSEM requirement and cannot fulfill any other requirement.

Students enrolled in other Colleges—Business, Science, Engineering, or Architecture—who take a major in the College of Arts and Letters without also obtaining a degree from the College of Arts and Letters are exempted from College Seminar. Those students must complete only the requirements of the specific major they choose.

Please visit a dean in the Arts and Letters Undergraduate Studies Office, 104 O’Shaughnessy Hall, if you have questions about your status.

Registration

All Arts and Letters students should plan on taking their CSEM in their sophomore year. There are circumstances in which this cannot occur. A few seats in each section, therefore, are available to Arts and Letters non-sophomores during their registration time.

Please contact the College Seminar program by e-mail at csem@nd.edu or by phone at (574) 631-9468 if you have questions.
