Requirements and Registration
Students enrolled in other Colleges—Business, Science, Engineering, or Architecture—who take a major in the College of Arts and Letters without also obtaining a degree from the College of Arts and Letters are exempted from College Seminar. Those students must complete only the requirements of the specific major they choose.
Students who declare a dual degree, i.e., those who are earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Letters as well as a Bachelor degree from another College, must complete the requirements of both Colleges, and therefore must take the College Seminar.
Please visit a dean in the Arts and Letters Undergraduate Studies Office, 104 O’Shaughnessy Hall, if you have questions about your status.
Registration Policy and Priorities
First-year students who are registering for a College Seminar to be taken in the Fall of sophomore year and second-year students registering for a CSEM to be taken in the Spring of sophomore year have priority over other students.
After these students have registered, the following two groups of students will be registered:
- Juniors who, as sophomores, participated in a Notre Dame off-campus program that ran for a full academic year and did not offer a College Seminar at the off-campus location
-
Juniors who joined the College of Arts and Letters as transfer students from other colleges within the University of Notre Dame or who joined the College of Arts and Letters as transfer students from other institutions at the end of the sophomore or the beginning of the junior year
Students from the latter two groups need to obtain special permission to register and should see a dean in the Arts and Letters Undergraduate Studies Office, 104 O’Shaughnessy Hall, or contact the administrative assistant for the College Seminar program in 300 O’Shaughnessy Hall.
